EUROPRO relaunched and reformed its activities at a meeting held in Stockholm, SWEDEN, Thursday 5 November 2009. The 20 organisations represented in EUROPRO stressed the necessity of Trade facilitation as a natural component of Customs reform in Europe, but also in regulatory reform and security issues. ”For Europe this is a crucial issue of competitiveness”, says Johan Krafft, Chairman of SWEPRO, hosting the meeting.
EUROPRO consists of 20 organisations in Europe promoting trade facilitation. The member organisations represent trade organisations and also government authorities involved in trade. The Stockholm meeting is perceived as a new start for an organisation with a clear agenda: promoting Trade Facilitation in an environment where customs reform and security concern present new challenges to trade.
”EUROPRO aims at being a watchdog for Trade Facilitation in Europe” says Norman Rose, Chairman of UK SITPRO. Members of the group discussed policy issues concerning the Modernised Customs Code, the Authorised Economic Operator programme, and Single Windows in the European Union but also US initiatives like 100 percent scanning and Importer Security Filing.
